After the Fire
When historic wildfires erupted across northern California in October 2017, Derek rushed back to Sonoma Valley, where his mom has lived for the last seven years. She left, he stayed, and we made a film. After the Fire follows three residents of the Valley as they struggle to find their places in a community that has been re-shaped overnight by natural disaster. After the Fire is the winner of 2017’s Tribeca Film Institute’s If/Then Shorts competition, which we pitched at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, and a participant in Kartemquin’s Screening Labs.
Before Red Dwarf was Red Dwarf, Derek was walking to work one morning when his attention was arrested by a young man on his skateboard outside of Oakland’s 19th Street bus terminal. That young man was Tamba and what we saw became the start of a film and a friendship. Tamba has screened at various festivals, including Telluride Mountainfilm, and is a Vimeo Staff pick.
Spencer moved to Chicago, then the Cubs made the World Series...for the first time since World War II. We figured people would have stories to tell. They did, but they weren’t always the ones we expected.

After 32 years of delivering mail in a town south of Seattle, U.S. Postal Service letter carrier Katie Schlilaty is one day away from retirement. The people she's brought letters to reflect on those years and wonder what they will do when she is gone.

LCF asked us to make a piece to showcase the work they do to support the work of Samaritans across California. People like Ivan Quinones, who moved to the U.S. from Colombia without knowing how to read or write English. Today, Ivan runs a non-profit that helps kids do both.
SONOMA VALLEY WHOLESALE NURSERY
Paul Martinez is many things - horticulturist, landscaper, small business owner, surfer, first-generation immigrant, and sometimes even our producer. He is also the owner of a sustainable plant nursery in the Sonoma Valley that takes a different, more mindful approach to horticulture. Much like Paul, it is unconventional, unique, and chicken-friendly.
